Built on Trust,
One Cut at a Time
City Barbers opened on East 74th Street in 1972 and has been a cornerstone of the Upper East Side community ever since. The shop has seen Manhattan change enormously over five decades — new buildings, new faces, new trends — but the core of what we do has stayed the same: honest work, fair prices, and a genuine connection to the neighborhood.
We're not the flashiest barbershop in the city. We don't have mood lighting and a cocktail menu. What we have is four experienced barbers who care about their craft, a classic shop atmosphere that puts clients at ease from the moment they walk in, and a track record that speaks for itself: 232 five-star Google reviews and three generations of Upper East Side families who trust us with their hair.
Many of our current regulars have been coming since they were kids, brought in by their fathers. Now they bring their own sons. That's not something you manufacture — it's something you earn, one haircut at a time, over 50+ years.
Meet Your Barbers
Four experienced barbers. One great barbershop. On the Upper East Side since 1972.
Mike has owned City Barbers since 1972, bringing over 25 years of professional experience to the chair at 223 E 74th Street. He took over the shop with one clear goal: preserve the classic barbershop experience while raising the standard of every service. His reputation for precision fades, consistent results, and making every client feel at ease has built one of the most loyal client bases on the Upper East Side. Many of his regulars have been in his chair for a decade or more, and more than a few followed him specifically when he took ownership. If you want to know what City Barbers is about, sitting in Mike's chair is the best possible answer.
View Profile →Alvaro is the Senior Barber at City Barbers with 30 years behind the chair at 223 E 74th Street — making him one of the longest-tenured barbers on the Upper East Side. His three decades at the same shop have produced a level of precision that is simply impossible to teach. He is known for meticulous fade work, flawless symmetry, and an ability to read any hair type instinctively after years of doing exactly that. His client list includes longtime UES residents who have been sitting in his chair for over a decade. Booking with Alvaro means working with someone who has spent 30 years getting this exact thing right.
View Profile →Arthur joined City Barbers three years ago and has quickly become one of the most requested barbers on the team. He's built a loyal following through his calm, unhurried approach — clients who found him in year one are still in his chair, and they're sending their friends. He is known especially for his work with children: his patience and gentle chair-side manner puts even anxious kids at ease, and parents consistently request him by name. His scissor work and fade technique are both sharp, and he brings the same meticulous care to every neckline and hairline regardless of the service. Arthur proves you don't need 20 years to earn the trust of your clients — just consistency and genuine care.
View Profile →Igor has been with City Barbers for five years and has built a devoted client base around his old-world approach to the craft — deliberate, precise, and never rushed. He is one of the shop's most skilled practitioners of the straight razor, and his Hot Towel Royal Shave appointments are among the most requested services we offer. His cuts are equally polished: clean fades, sharp tapers, and classic scissor work executed with the kind of quiet confidence that only comes from years of real practice. Igor's clients are loyal because he delivers the same level of care on every visit, whether it's your first appointment or your fiftieth. If you're looking for the full classic barbershop experience, Igor is the right barber.
